Simultaneously minimizing residual stress and enhancing strength of selective laser melted nano-TiB2 decorated Al alloy via post-uphill quenching and ageing

Selective laser melting (SLM) of aluminium alloys is research interest to produce customized or complex-shaped metal components for functional structural applications. In order palliate the undesirable residual stress developed in SLM process, traditional post-annealing heat treatment has been widely used lower selective melted (SLMed) Al alloys. However, method usually leads a decrease strength which another concern this study, we and validated new strategy combining post-uphill quenching subsequent ageing simultaneously minimise increase SLMed nano-TiB2 decorated alloy parts. The results show that high as-built was partly counteracted by newly-produced opposite direction during uphill stage synergistically reduced dislocation recovery stage. microstructural features grains cell structures remain unchanged after treatment. While substantial nano-Si particles with dot-like needle-like morphology precipitate inside cells. tensile improved mainly due effective precipitation strengthening dispersed nanosized Si precipitates. proposed expected be useful other materials fabricated also unwanted.
